TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH PURCHASES TWO MOBI-CHAIRS FOR USE AT WATERFRONT. The Town of Wasaga Beach has purchased two Mobi-Chairs that will allow people with disabilities to access the water of Nottawasaga Bay. Mobi-chairs are floating wheelchairs that allow users to easily transition from the beach to the water. The cost of the new chairs is almost $5,000, with $1,000 coming from municipal coffers and $3,900 from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund. The chairs are available on a first-come basis at the Wasaga Beach Provincial Park Office, 11-22nd Street North, Beach Area Three. The town wishes to thank park officials for administering the chair service. Members of the town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee are pleased by the investment in the chairs. Committee members believe the chairs will enhance the beachfront experience of individuals with mobility issues. There is no cost to use a Mobi-Chair, however, users are required to put down a $500 deposit that will be refunded if the chair is returned in the same condition it was signed out. Users are also required to sign a waiver. In addition to the two new Mobi-Chairs, the town has two all-terrain wheel chairs. These are also available through the park office. As well, the town has three sets of Mobi-Mats. One set is at Beach Area 2, the second set is at Beach Area 3, and the third is at Beach Area 5. The mats create a stable surface for people using such devices as wheel chairs and walkers. For more information about the Mobi-Mats or Mobi-Chairs, call the park office at 705-429-2516 or visit www.mobi-chair.com.
