Tony Macri Modern Artist
Tony Macri has created a unique style of art combining surrealism, pop and street art using inventive mediums. His art has been described as evoking a happy feeling. It is always thought provoking, engaging, honest and sometimes a satirical commentary of today’s society.Tony was greatly influenced by his uncle Franceso Macri a passionate surrealist painter. Born March 5th,1956 in Calabria southern Italy, Tony immigrated to Canada at age 9 and made Toronto his new home. At Danforth Tech his passion for art was ignited, inspired by Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol. Tony’s extensive art career took many forms from Creative Director to painter and spans decades celebrating his creativity. As Art Director at Sears Canada,Tony was honoured with the JC Barrows Award of Outstanding Achievement, this award is given once very 25 years.
Art Director at various advertising agencies successfully creating ad campaigns for large corporations.
Since his move to Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Tony has been painting full time and enjoying his studio by the beach and showing his art in a multitude of venues and shows throughout the Georgian Bay art community.
His style is innovative and unusal “invoking a happy feeling”, Using celebrity, popular song lyrics, quotations and a unique form of upcycling household material , Tony’a work is always and creating thought provoking visually appealing.
Tony believes that his art has a social responsibility reflecting our current times, not just wallpaper! Art with Substance.
